Ian Smith is a Staff Attorney at Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Ian handles legal intake of new church-state separation complaints and pursues non-litigation advocacy to attempt to resolve violations without the need for lawsuits.

Prior to joining Americans United, he spent his final year of law school enrolled in clinical programs providing direct litigation services to poor and indigent clients in Boston. Ian graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in history from Vanderbilt University in 2004, and obtained his Juris Doctor from the Boston University School of Law in 2008.
