Nadine Smith is President and CEO of Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. A nationally recognized civil rights leader and TIME100 honoree, she brings more than three decades of experience winning civil rights battles in some of the country’s most hostile political environments.
Previously, Smith served as the founding executive director of Equality Florida, where she helped secure marriage equality, overturn Florida’s ban on gay adoption, and defeat hundreds of anti-LGBTQ+ bills, including 29 of 30 filed over the last two legislative sessions. She also played a central role in turning Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law into a global symbol of government overreach and winning a settlement that sharply limited its scope.
A former award-winning journalist, Smith is known for pairing strategic organizing with narrative clarity, coalition building, and a deeply intersectional approach that links racial justice, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ equality, and voting rights as inseparable struggles. She hosts “Wide Awake America,” an award-winning radio show and podcast focused on democracy, culture, and accountability.
