AU seeking nominees for David Norr Youth Activist Award

Americans United is currently accepting nominees for its David Norr Youth Activist Award.

Nominees could be grassroots activists, student leaders, plaintiffs, elected officials, storytellers or another young person who has demonstrated leadership and courage in taking action to protect and advance church-state separation. Groups of young people may also be nominated.

Named in honor of the late David Norr, a staunch advocate and supporter of Americans United for over 25 years, this award is given to an individual or group who goes above and beyond to advocate for separation of church and state. While it’s not a new award, this is the first time AU has issued a public call for nominations to give our communities the opportunity to uplift deserving young activists.

Our most recent award recipients include student Ramya Sinha, who stirred up some good trouble at her school, and AU client Irish 4 Reproductive Health, a student-led group that challenged the University of Notre Dame’s denial of birth control coverage.

The winner of the David Norr Youth Activist Award will receive a paid trip to attend the Summit for Religious Freedom in Washington, D.C., in April 2024, where the recipient will accept the award live on stage.

Congress needs to hear from you!

Urge your legislators to co-sponsor the Do No Harm Act today.

The Do No Harm Act will help ensure that our laws are a shield to protect religious freedom and not used as a sword to harm others by undermining civil rights laws and denying access to health care.
