On Jan. 17 in Minneapolis, AU Chief Program Officer Mariko Hirose spoke at the Religious Freedom Day Forum hosted by HumanistsMN. Themed “Protect Our Secular Democracy: A Forum for Religious Freedom,” the event took place in the facilities of the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis. Hirose’s presentation was titled “Year in Review and Looking Ahead: The Christian Nationalist Threat to Our Communities.”
A screening of the documentary “Under G-d” was held at the Coolidge Theater in Brookline, Mass., on Feb. 9. “Under G-d” highlights why it is vital to stand up for religious freedom and church-state separation to protect reproductive freedom for all. AU President and CEO Rachel Laser is interviewed in the film.
In a virtual event on Feb. 21, the AU Orange County Chapter hosted an event titled “What it Means to Be Secular in 2026.” Phil Zuckerman, a professor of sociology and secular studies at Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif., was the featured speaker.
On Feb. 27 in Fort Wayne, Ind., Hoosiers United for Separation of Church and State hosted “Hope Sings,” a concert and sing-along with “music for hope and resolve.” Local professional groups, Friends with the Weather, Cote Godoy y Amigos, Canto de Corazon, and the Fort Wayne UU Voices performed. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Wayne hosted the event.
