Tell Your Legislators to Vote Against Private School Vouchers in Iowa

The Iowa legislature just came back into session last week, and Republicans–backed by Governor Reynolds and billionaires like Betsy DeVos–are already racing to force a private school voucher bill through the state house. The bill would create a statewide voucher with a price tag of more than $340 million a year. A Senate subcommittee already approved one bill just three days after the legislature started up, and the House is moving almost as quickly.

You need to act now to oppose this bill.

This voucher will drain $340 million a year of taxpayer money away from Iowa public schools and send it all to private schools. And vouchers don’t even work! There aren’t any private schools in almost half the counties in Iowa. Plus, studies show students using vouchers often perform worse on standardized tests than other students. Not to mention that vouchers lack accountability, fund discrimination, don’t work for rural students, and harm religious freedom.

Please take a moment to contact your Iowa legislators and tell them you want them to oppose vouchers in Iowa.

Public dollars should fund public schools.

Thanks for raising your voice to protect public schools!
