On Feb. 13, 2024, we hosted an exclusive, behind-the-scenes sneak peek of Rob Reiner’s new documentary, “God & Country,” which features AU experts Rob Boston and Andrew L. Seidel and many respected scholars and faith leaders. This event was recorded and can be watched below.
Americans United has been warning about the threat Christian Nationalism poses to our democracy. A compelling new documentary produced by Rob Reiner, GOD & COUNTRY, takes our warning seriously.
Based on author Katherine Stewart’s book The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism, “God & Country” looks at the implications of Christian Nationalism and how it distorts not only our constitutional republic but Christianity itself. Experts interviewed for the film include AU’s Andrew L. Seidel and Rob Boston, and author, historian, and professor Anthea Butler, who will be a keynote speaker at the Summit for Religious Freedom (SRF) that AU is hosting in April.
During this unique event on Feb. 13, we viewed highlights from the film while hearing from many people involved in the documentary, including: Emmy Award-winning actor and producer Rob Reiner, veteran documentary film and TV director Dan Partland, AU President and CEO Rachel Laser, AU’s Rob Boston and Andrew L. Seidel, author Katherine Stewart, and author and historian Jemar Tisby. They took us through the making of the documentary and told us just what’s at stake with the growing threat of Christian Nationalism. A question-and-answer session follows.
