Americans United Applauds Court Ruling Striking Down Trump Administration’s Harmful Denial of Care Rule

"We’re thankful Judge Engelmayer blocked President Trump’s dangerous Denial of Care Rule from going into effect. We urge the federal judges reviewing our cases in California and Maryland, as well as the judge in the Washington case, to reach a conclusion as swiftly as possible and send a clear message to the Trump administration that this rule poses an imminent threat to public health,” said Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United.

Americans United Condemns Trump Administration Proposal To Allow Widespread Discrimination Across All HHS Programs

“This proposed rule marks a new low in the Trump administration’s efforts to license discrimination against religious minorities and LGBTQ people. The rule would directly and gravely harm some of our nation’s most vulnerable people – children in foster care, senior citizens, and youth experiencing homelessness,” said Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United. “When it comes to discrimination based on religion, the Trump administration is saying it’s OK to ignore the Constitution. It’s never OK and we will continue to fight to uphold our core American value of religious freedom.”

Americans United Denounces Appointment of Paula White to White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative

“Televangelist Paula White is unfit to serve in the position of advisor to the White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative," said AU President & CEO Rachel Laser. "She has no experience in government or public service and no history of undertaking the kind of interfaith outreach necessary for this role. Instead, she has operated in the shadows to influence public policies that discriminate against women, LGBTQ people and religious minorities, and the nomination of partisan judges who will support those harmful policies."

Federal Appeals Court: Brevard County, Fla., Commissioners’ Invocation Policy Discriminates Based on Religion

“Brevard County Commissioners were using religion as the basis for discrimination by allowing only people of preferred faiths to offer invocations. Religious minorities and nonbelievers are equal members of society and they must be treated equally by their elected officials. The court’s decision today made clear that no one should be excluded from civic affairs because of their beliefs about God," said AU Associate Legal Director Alex J. Luchenitser.
