Americans United Celebrates President Biden’s Embrace Of Diversity, Demonstrated Again By Ending Trump’s Trans Military Ban

More About This Issue

Americans United for Separation of Church and State President and CEO Rachel Laser issued this statement today in response to President Joe Biden repealing former President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military:

“We at Americans United for Separation of Church and State welcome President Joe Biden’s commitment to embracing the diversity that makes our nation strong. He demonstrated this commitment today with his executive order repealing Trump’s cruel and unwise ban on transgender people serving in our military, which was spurred by Trump’s Evangelical Advisory Council. Layer by layer, the Biden-Harris administration is taking steps to remove the stain of hatred, division and discrimination left by the previous administration.

“This is yet another move by Biden to reject the religious extremism that influenced so many of the policies enacted during the last four years. Already Biden has repealed Trump’s Muslim and African Ban, restored anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people, and disbanded Trump’s 1776 Commission that tried to redefine U.S. history through the lens of white Christian nationalism.

“We urge the Biden-Harris administration to continue on this path that restores and protects freedom of religion as promised in our Constitution – the right to practice a religion or no religion as you see fit, as long as you don’t harm others. We look forward to a government that will protect everyone’s freedoms and works to fulfill our nation’s vision of equality and inclusion for all.”
