White Christian Nationalists Must Not Be Allowed To Harm Black Churches In Washington, D.C.

More About This Issue

Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, issued the following statement in anticipation of potential violence against Black churches this week in Washington, D.C.:

“Given the real threat of repeat violence by the Proud Boys this week, we support the decision by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police to provide additional protection to the Black churches that were targeted in the last protest. White Christian nationalists must not be allowed to further harm the safety and religious freedom of these or any houses of worship.

“Americans United is in solidarity with every religious institution attacked and exploited by white Christian nationalists in the service of white supremacy. Religious freedom means safe and secure worship for everyone – without discrimination.”
