Fueled by a heady mix of fake news and fearmongering, Christian nationalists have sought to deny entire classes of citizens their rights and argued for a less free, more exclusionary country – and sometimes sparked violence. Indeed, a 'big lie' about an election that was in no way stolen led to the sacking of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
