Texas School Officials Charged For Not Reporting Sexual Assault

Texas School Officials Charged For Not Reporting Sexual Assault

Five officials at a Christian school in Midland, Texas, were arrested last month for failing to report a sexual assault at the institution.

Midland Police Department said three administrators and two coaches at the school were arrested, booked and then released. They are charged with failing to report the crime and with intent to conceal neglect or abuse, reported KWES-TV. The station reported that among those arrested was Jared Lee, the school’s superintendent.

A baseball player at the school reported that he was sexually assaulted during a hazing incident in January. The victim reported the assault to the police. During an investigation, police determined that the five staff members knew about the assault but failed to report it, as is required under Texas law.
