Louisiana Voucher Students Struggling With Math

  Rob Boston

A new study of Louisiana’s voucher program shows that children taking part in it perform worse in math than other students.

The program, which is aimed at low-income families, requires that students be evaluated every year by having them take the same standardized test as public school students.

Patrick Wolf, a researcher at the University of Arkansas, has studied the program for four years. His most recent findings are that students in the voucher schools did worse on the state tests overall, reported New Orleans Public Radio.

“The students who participated in the voucher program generally had lower test scores on the state accountability exam, most clearly in math,” Wolf said.
