Jerry Falwell Jr., former president of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., announced early last month that he is dropping a defamation lawsuit he had filed against the school in October.

Falwell agreed to step down from running the school after a photo came to light of him on a yacht with his arm around a young woman with their pants partially undone. Not long after that, a young man in Florida claimed that he had a long-running affair with Falwell’s wife Becki and that Falwell had watched them have sex.

Liberty’s trustees gave Falwell a $10 million dollar severance package, but he still chose to file the suit against the school in state court.

In a statement Falwell said, “I’ve decided to take a time out from my litigation against Liberty University, but I will continue to keep all options on the table for an appropriate resolution to the matter.”

Liberty officials issued a statement of their own saying that they had not given Falwell any additional payments to drop the suit.
