Announcing Keynote Speakers For Americans United’s Summit For Religious Freedom!

Americans United’s Summit for Religious Freedom (SRF) is coming up in just a few weeks, April 22-24. There’s still time to join us in person in Washington, D.C., or sign up to attend virtually.

We’ve just announced the keynote speakers who will join our exciting lineup of speakers and events:

Dr. Bradley Onishi

Brad, the co-host of the “Straight White American Jesus” podcast (which also will be broadcasting live at SRF) and author of Preparing for War: The Extremist History of White Christian Nationalism – And What Comes Next, will join Andrew L. Seidel, AU’s vice president for strategic communications, to brief attendees on Christian Nationalist attempts to restrict voting rights and reproductive rights and institute far-right Christian supremacy in the public square. (You can read an excerpt from Brad’s book here and one from Andrew’s most recent book, American Crusade, here.

Katherine Stewart

Katherine, a journalist who writes about religion and politics for a wide variety of publications and is the author of several books, including The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism, will join AU President and CEO Rachel Laser and the Rev. Traci Blackmon, a plaintiff in our Missouri abortion ban lawsuit. They will dive into the rise of recent attacks on abortion and gender equality, and discuss how fighting for church-state separation is part of the solution.

Kierra Johnson

Kierra, the executive director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, will join by the Rev. Alex McNeill, a member of AU’s Faith Advisory Council, and former AU Youth Organizing Fellow Ranen Miao to shed light on the coordinated attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, especially on those who are transgender; the role of Christian Nationalism and right-wing extremists; and the coordinated war on our progressive values.

Breakout Sessions

SRF will also feature a variety of exciting breakout sessions. Topics include “How the Supreme Court is Catapulting Us Toward Theocracy,” “The (Gen) XYZ of Messaging: Communicating Church-State Separation,” “Boom! Lawyered Live: How the Supreme Court is Catapulting Us Toward Theocracy” and “Youth Activism for Church-State Separation.”

A full list of breakout sessions can be found here. And remember, at SRF you’ll have an opportunity to meet experts, authors and other advocates as well as make contacts and share ideas with fellow defenders of church-state separation. You don’t want to miss this event.

We hope to see you in person or online April 22-24 for our inaugural Summit for Religious Freedom!

Congress needs to hear from you!

Urge your legislators to co-sponsor the Do No Harm Act today.

The Do No Harm Act will help ensure that our laws are a shield to protect religious freedom and not used as a sword to harm others by undermining civil rights laws and denying access to health care.
