Misguided Mission: Pa. Mayor Leads Prayer And Fasting To Balance The Budget

What’s the best way to solve a city’s piling debt? According to Harrisburg, Pa., Mayor Linda Thompson, it’s organizing a prayer and fasting campaign.

“Things that are above and beyond my control; I need God,” Thompson told WHTM TV, the region’s ABC affiliate. “I depend on Him for guidance. Spiritual guidance. That’s why it’s really no struggle for me to join this fast and prayer.” Read more

Cap, Gown & Individual Freedom: Court Bars Majority-Rules Prayer At Graduation In Indiana

This past weekend, I attended my sister’s graduation ceremony at the University of Michigan, where President Barack Obama delivered the commencement address.

The Ann Arbor ceremony included a variety of speeches welcoming the students, their families and the president. Some speeches were inspiring, others were congratulatory and most contained a good deal of school spirit. (Being a Buckeye myself, hearing “Go Blue” shouted by our president particularly stung.) Justice In Chillicothe: School Officials Cancel Clergy Prayers At Graduation

A few weeks ago, I mentioned a graduating senior who asked his Ohio high school to change its policy of beginning and ending commencement with Christian prayers.
