“Religious freedom is fundamental, but so is the right of patients to access the health care they need. This rule betrays both," said Maggie Garrett, AU's legislative director. "No one should be denied lifesaving health care because of someone else’s religious beliefs. That’s just plain discrimination.”
“Religious freedom is about fairness, but today’s actions show that once again the Trump administration wants to sanction the use of religion to discriminate and deny patients access to health care," said AU Legislative Director Maggie Garrett. "HHS should protect patients’ rights and ensure their access to health care, not shield those who want to deny Americans the critical services they need. The Office of Civil Rights should prohibit discrimination, not sanction it."
