With New Birth Control Rule, Trump Administration Ramps Up Attack On Women’s Health Care

Ask women about birth control, and they’ll tell you they use it to protect their health and to plan their families. They are also likely to explain that it allows them to participate in the workforce and pursue their education. In other words, it’s critical to their health and equality.

New regulations issued by the Trump administration today, however, could threaten all of that. Under the regulations, bosses and universities can use religion as an excuse to deny their staff and students health insurance coverage for birth control.

Americans United Will Sue Trump Administration Over New Birth Control Regulations

Religious Freedom Advocate Says Decisions About Women’s Health Care Should Be Made By Women – Not By Their Employer’s Or University’s Religious Beliefs

Americans United for Separation of Church and State announced plans today to sue the Trump administration to block new regulations that let employers and universities use religion as an excuse to refuse to cover birth control on their employees’ and students’ health insurance plans. An earlier version of the rule was leaked to the media in May but the proposed regulations were formally issued today.

TV Preacher Paula White Says Opposition To Trump Is Opposition To God

Paula White, the “prosperity gospel” television preacher who became President Donald Trump’s spiritual adviser, recently equated opposition to Trump with opposition to God.

During an Aug. 22 cable television interview on “The Jim Bakker Show,” White told fellow TV preacher Bakker that she’s glad Trump isn’t “presidential.”

Number Of Students Using Vouchers In D.C. Drops

A recent report revealed that the number of students using private school vouchers from the controversial Washington, D.C., voucher program dropped by almost 500 over a four-year span.

The report, released in August by FutureEd, an education think tank, found that 1,154 students used vouchers through the program, which is funded with federal tax dollars, in the 2016-17 school year, as opposed to the 1,638 students who had used them four years earlier. One-third of students who were awarded vouchers ended up not using them.

Gender Identity Is Not A Pretense

Science Backs Civil Rights For Transgender Individuals

I was disappointed by your response to the letter from Tom Kirkman III berating AU for its opposition to North Carolina’s HB2 and similar proposals that would discriminate against transgender individuals (September Church & State). Simply restating your opposition to such discrimination, while necessary, did not address Mr. Kirkman’s central claim that “gender identity is pretense,” and therefore there can be no real discrimination against transgender individuals.
