Trump’s New Executive Order On Immigration Is Still An Offensive, Unconstitutional Muslim Ban, Says Americans United

Church-State Watchdog Group Vows To Fight New Directive

President Donald J. Trump’s latest effort to curb Muslim immigration into the United States is just as offensive and illegal as his first try, says Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

“President Trump is attempting to dress up this monster, but it just doesn’t work,” said Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United. “This policy remains a destructive beast that offends our Constitution by treating people like second-class citizens based on their religious beliefs. It has to go.”

Americans United will oppose the new Trump directive. AU filed two briefs in a successful legal challenge to the first Trump order. In that case, State of Washington v. Donald Trump, AU argued that the Trump order violated the separation of church and state by infringing on the religious freedom rights of Muslims. (The briefs can be read here and here.)

Americans United is also involved in a similar lawsuit in Virginia. That case was also successful.

Americans United is a religious liberty watchdog group based in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1947, the organization educates Americans about the importance of church-state separation in safeguarding religious freedom.
