Public school officials such as teachers, principals and others may not sponsor prayer, devotional Bible reading or other religious activities. They may not compel or pressure young people to take part in religious activities. The Supreme Court ruled correctly when it struck down mandatory school prayer in 1962 and ’63. However, this does not mean there can be no religion in schools. Public school students have the right to pray voluntarily in a non-disruptive fashion during the school day and read religious texts during free time. A short rule of thumb: Individual, voluntary religious activity by students is permitted; school-sponsored religious worship is not.

Americans United Sues Trump Administration Over Rules That Threaten Women’s Access To Birth Control

Americans United is following through on a promise we made when the Trump administration announced an attack on women’s health care last month: We’ve filed a federal lawsuit challenging the administration’s new regulations that allow employers and universities to use religion as an excuse to deny their staff and students health insurance coverage for birth control.

Jerry Falwell Jr. Admits That The Religious Right’s Support For Trump Is About Power, Not Values

The Trump Administration Is Seeking Advice On How To Use Religion To Discriminate

The Trump administration is taking yet another step towards making it easier for taxpayer-funded organizations to use religion to discriminate. On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a formal request for information to help it figure out how to remove “barriers” it claims faith-based organizations face when seeking taxpayer funding from HHS. It also asks how to “affirmatively accommodate” the religious exercise of faith-based organizations.

Trump Religious Adviser Robert Jeffress Has Questions. We’ve Got Answers.

There are many bad things about Donald Trump’s presidency, but one of the worst is that it has thrust people like Pastor Robert Jeffress into the national spotlight.

Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, was one of any number of far-right theocrats with a smidgen of regional notoriety at best until he hitched himself to Trump’s campaign. Now, as one of Trump’s inner circle of religious advisers, Jeffress is much loved by the Fox News Channel and appears there regularly.
