Orange County Chapter Event featuring Mahmoud Elsayess - August 4

Address: 15500 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine, CA
Host chapter:

The Orange County chapter’s August 4thevent features Mahmoud Elsayess who will provide a preview of his upcoming book “Sharia Law in the 21st Century.”  Professor Elsayess is concerned about the lack of understanding many have about Sharia Law.  Some American politicians continue to call attention to their concerns about Sharia Law, despite the fact that both Jewish and Christian traditions have equivalent systems. In Judaism, this is represented by the Rabbinical Court or Beit-Din. In Christianity, it is the Arbitration Court.  Sharia Law addresses all aspects of Muslim life, including religious obligations and financial dealings. Banning Sharia Law could nullify wills and other legal contracts between Muslims. The state of Kansas has just enacted legislation to outlaw Sharia Law. A similar law was approved by voters in Oklahoma in 2010, but it has since been struck down by the federal courts. Americans United hailed this decision in a friend-of-the-court brief noting, in the words of Barry Lynn, "This law was divisive, unnecessary, and dangerous."

The event takes place on Saturday August 4th at 1:30 PM, at the new Irvine Ranch Water District Community Room, 15500 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine.  There is no charge for this event.  Doors open at 1:00 for snacks and socializing; seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis.
