El Paso Chapter presents an Evening of Civil Discourse with Richard Katskee and Susan Cooper

An Evening of Civil Discourse: The Rights of Women, LGBTQ People and Religious Minorities under Trump and Abbott

In the hands of the federal and state administrations, religion has served as a justification for policies that undermine women’s reproductive autonomy and violate the human and civil rights of sexual and religious minorities.  Join leaders of the League of Women Voters, Join Us For Justice, and Equality Texas, to learn about how civil rights coalitions of religious and secular organizations are resisting such discriminatory policies, and to learn about how you can help our fight to expand civil rights protections for all.

What: Panel discussion: Religion and the Rights of Women and Sexual Minorities under Trump and Abbott.

Who: Susan Cooper, League of Women Voters, and Richard B. Katskee, Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

When: May 17, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

Where: Best Western Hotel (Airway)

Richard B. Katskee is a law scholar and the legal director of AU.  As such, he has litigated First Amendment cases in both federal and state courts.  He will be sharing AU’s involvement in high-stakes cases currently before the Supreme Court that could rollback decades of progress in civil liberties.

Susan Cooper has been the president of the El Paso league of Women Voters for ___ years.  She will be speaking about the League’s state-wide efforts to increase voter participation and to educate the Texas electorate about threats to women’s reproductive rights and the rights of LGBTQ people.

Co-sponsored by Join Us For Justice (the local chapter of American United for Separation of Church and State), El Paso's League of Women Voters, and Equality Texas.
