Delaware Valley Chapter presents Wicca, Nature Religions, and Church-State Separation - September 13

Address: 150 S. Pine St., Doylestown, PA, 18901
Host chapter:

DVAU, Doylestown PA: Wicca, Nature Religions, and Church-State Separation, September 13

The next meeting of the Delaware Valley Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church & State will be held Thursday, September 13, 7:00 pm, at the Bucks County Free Library in Doylestown located at 150 S. Pine St., Doylestown, Pa 18901.

Our speaker will be Dr. Glenn Booker, a member of DVAU’s Clergy Advisory Board, who will speak on Wicca and other nature religions and their interaction with the separation of religion and government. It is critical that government remains neutral with respect to all religions and a perusal of Americans United’s website shows how the Wiccan faith has been the focus of a number of church/state separation cases (http://www.au.org/search/site/wiccan).

Starting with the popular media image of witches, Dr. Booker will examine how Wicca and other nature religions differ from dogmatic religions, give an overview of the history and typical beliefs of Wicca, what rituals and celebrations are practiced, and how these beliefs connect to a Wiccan view of church/state separation.

Dr. Booker is a professor at the iSchool at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He has earned three engineering degrees, and has been a pilot and rocket scientist. He has been Wiccan since the mid-1980′s, was very involved in the Church of All Worlds, and was initiated into a Wiccan family tradition.

This should be an interesting presentation focusing on aspects of church/state separation that we have not addressed at past meetings.
