Columbia Chapter Event – “The War on Contraception” -- May 30

Host chapter: The Columbia Chapter, serving Oregon and SW Washington

Erin Matson, the Action Vice President of the National Organization for Women (NOW) will be in Portland to talk about “The War on Contraception – Religious Fundamentalism and Public Policy.” 

Ms. Matson will address the issue of birth control as a perceived assault on religious freedom, and the misuse of “conscience” as part of an agenda to block women’s access to contraception.  She will discuss ongoing efforts and difficulties toward expanding access to contraception at the federal and state level, as well as through corporate policy; and will share her experiences from the front lines of this battle, offering ideas on how each of us can help.

Ms. Matson will be joined by:

                           Law professor at Willamette University College of Law

Michele Stranger Hunt -- Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon

Laura Terrill Patten -- Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon

This event will take place at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in downtown Portland. The address is 1226 SW Salmon Street. Use the Salmon Street entrance into the new building.
