A Religious Right legal group has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a case dealing with the rights of transgender students at a Pennsylvania public school.
Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) wants the high court to hear a challenge to a policy at Boyertown Area School District, which allows students to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity. But other students are arguing that infringes on their rights. Two lower courts have ruled against the objecting students.
“Their claim that transgender students are a threat to others is offensive and not supported by the evidence in Boyertown or schools around the country,” attorney Ria Tabacco Mar of the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania told the Allentown Morning Call. ADF, the nation’s largest Religious Right legal group, has been attacking transgender rights in other lawsuits around the country. (Doe v. Boyertown Area School District)
