Former Nebraska State Sen. Ernie Chambers’ lawsuit against God has been dismissed by the Nebraska Court of Appeals.

Chambers, an atheist, brought the lawsuit in 2007, asking for a permanent injunction to stop “fearsome floods, egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes, pestilential plagues, ferocious famines, devastating droughts, genocidal wars, birth defects and the like.”

Chambers brought the suit following the state legislature’s attempt to limit so-called frivolous lawsuits. He believed Chambers v. God made a statement that citizens have the right to sue anyone.

A district court threw out the case at the end of last year, claiming God could not be served legal notice. In his appeal, Chambers argued that since God is all-knowing, he would have received notice of the lawsuit.
