Col. Morgenthaler is a retired United States Army Colonel, having served for nearly 30 years. She served in Korea, Berlin, Bosnia, and Iraq; and with disaster recovery operations during the San Francisco earthquake of 1989. In 2004, she handled press duties for the Army, including addressing the Abu Ghraib scandal. She had been appointed by former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich as deputy chief of staff for public safety, and as a homeland security adviser in Illinois. Col. Morgenthaler will talk about her concerns regarding a rising religious fanaticism that has taken hold of the military apparatus. She recently met with the President of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) and has stated that: “The crisis that MRFF has uncovered should alarm every American who believes in the separation of church and state.”
