Legislative Assistant

Americans United for Separation of Church and State seeks an individual to work as a member of its legislative team and to support and coordinate the work of the entire legislative department in its Washington, D.C. office. The Legislative Assistant will be responsible for tracking legislation, conducting research on specific legislative and policy issues, maintaining and updating the legislative portion of Americans United’s website, developing action alerts, coordinating and participating in coalition activities, contributing to the editing process of organizational materials, managing lobby registrations and reports, maintaining the Department’s files, and otherwise providing administrative support to the Department.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and strong organizational, analytical, writing, research, and speaking skills. Legal, legislative, or other policy experience and experience working with coalitions are preferred. Applicants must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team, and in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. Applicants should also have a demonstrated commitment to church-state separation or other civil rights and civil liberties issues.
