    Ignoring The Best Interest Of Kids, House Republicans Pass Amendment To Allow Adoption Agencies To Discriminate

    House Republicans amended a spending bill to include language that would allow adoption and foster care agencies that receive federal funding to discriminate against qualified prospective parents and children in need based on the agency’s religious beliefs. The result: Kids could be denied stable, loving homes with prospective parents who are LGBTQ, single, previously divorced or even the “wrong religion.”

Debbie Wasserman Schultz and John Lewis will offer amendments to strip the problematic Johnson Amendment language from the bill.

    Earlier this week, President Donald J. Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to be the next U.S. Supreme Court justice. Americans United opposes Kavanaugh’s nomination because his record as an attorney and federal judge indicates that he won’t uphold church-state separation. Not surprisingly, leaders of the Religious Right feel differently. They’re fired up over the prospect of Justice Kavanaugh.
