Serving The Seattle Area's Eastside Communities
Our chapter covers the suburbs on the eastern side of Seattle's Lake Washington, which locals refer to as 'Eastside'.
This area extends from Kenmore, Bothell, and Woodinville in the north to Renton and Cascade-Fairwood in the south. It extends from Lake Washington (including Mercer Island) in the west to Sammamish and Issaquah in the east. Within these borders are the major communities of Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastside_%28King_County%2C_Washington%29 for a good description of our area.
Vision Statement
(MARCH, 2008)
* We, as a chapter, have a clear sense of who we are and where we fit within the Americans United organization. We contribute in ways that make a difference to AU National fulfilling its mission to defend the First Amendment of the Constitution.
* We are respected in our local community for who we are and what we say. This includes being seen as non-partisan and religiously neutral. We serve as a source of assistance for those who suffer from violations of church-state separation, and a source of opposition for those who want to violate our Constitution. Our members are sufficient in number that we are seen as a significant voice in the local community we serve.
* Our members feel they have a home in the chapter and want to participate in chapter activities both as active members and officers. We have members with the skills to enable us to do a good job with whatever tasks we take on.
* We have sufficient financial resources to ensure our survival and fund projects we consider worthwhile.
* We conduct interesting and informative meetings that educate our members and the local community.
* Our procedures are well documented so that each new officer or member does not have to reinvent the wheel when asked to create an action plan or perform a task.
* We are having fun!
