Roberta Combs is the president of the Christian Coalition. The Coalition was founded in 1989 by TV preacher Pat Robertson and enjoyed great success during the 1990s. During this period, Combs served the group as an activist in South Carolina, where she built up a powerful chapter.

Combs took over the organization in 2000, at a time when the group was experiencing financial and structural difficulties. In December of 2001, Robertson cut his ties to the group entirely, and it went into further decline. Combs moved the Coalition to South Carolina, although it retains an outpost in Washington, D.C.
